Feeding Future Leaders

TJVF is proud to announce a new partnership with Hope Church as they prepare to launch their “Feeding Future Leaders” program at TJHS.  As a significant number of students attending TJHS are bused from low-income homes located in all corners of the City of Richmond (95% do not live in the district) and as of October 2013, 74% received a subsidized breakfast when they arrive and are served lunch at 10:30 a.m., most do not return home from extracurricular activities until 7 or 8pm, where prospects for a nutritious dinner are often questionable.  Hope Church’s initial focus of support was the football team but became aware of other students remaining after school for other activities (band, volleyball, cross country, cheering, tutoring, etc.).

This season, as program coordinator, Hope Church is striving to organize a bold effort to feed all the students; Their Mission, to serve a heavy snack/light meal to the 150-175 students who stay after school to participate in sanctioned after school activities Mondays –Thursdays from September 6- November 3 so this program has the potential to impact up to 25% of the student body.
